Large Raises Cause Huge Deficit, Bankruptcy Looms at SDUHSD

Projected deficit of SDUHSD is now $12M due to raises of 12.5% – 35%+ to teachers, administrators, and staff.

The contract over the next two years will cost San Dieguito roughly $8.9 million in pay and benefits, giving the district’s 570 teachers a 7 percent wage increase retroactive to July 1, 2015, and a 5.5 percent hike for the 2016-2017 school year. It would also increase class sizes at district high schools to an average of 38 students, from the current maximum of 32.” Pat Maio 12/16/2015

Administrators’ and top employees’ salaries saw even larger increases to the extent of 20-35%.  Altogether, $6.5M is spent annually on these increases.  At this rate, once reserves run out, the District could face bankruptcy.  Meanwhile, our schools’ Foundations desperately seek donations from parents for curriculum programs, science equipment, basic school materials and supplies.  The Board’s disregard for fiscal prudence is beyond irresponsible.

Put students first by shifting the culture from union to student centered independent board.

Vote Melisse Mossy, Maureen Muir, and Lea Wolf for SDUHSD School Board.

Integrity. Transparency. Compassion.

“ Taxpayers and students need an independent representative who will look out for their interests…
a parent of a district student…with fresh ideas.
Lea is an outspoken voice for students and their parents… one of the few that dares to speak out.
Lea has the courage, commitment, and integrity to be a student-centered trustee.”

John Salazar, SDUHSD Board Trustee
