When can we expect positive changes in our District?

While on the campaign trail…

Yesterday, I stopped for an interesting conversation with a community member about
some of the challenges we face in our District.

She recognized that we are fortunate to live in a fabulous District but was concerned about the lack of vision,
organization, sound decision-making and overall dysfunction among our present board’s leadership.

She said “the environment is so toxic, when will we see positive change?”
To which I replied: “When leadership restores full trust and confidence.”

She wasn’t too convinced. I continued, “when leadership, acting with good intent, creates
a safe environment for open and honest conversations and makes our community a part of the solution—
in short, it’s about “community empowerment centered on students needs.”

Something that is crystal clear to me is that conflict arises from problems that are ignored, dismissed,
and mismanaged. The solution, no matter the challenge is to face problems head-on and engage in open
and honest conversation. That is how we begin restoring trust and confidence with our community.

Leading with integrity, transparency and compassion are the key elements for harmony.
